I had to make a game that lasted for about 20 seconds or less so in other words a warioware like game where each games only lasts a few seconds before going to the next one.

The programs I used to make my microgame:

Game Engine: Unity

Sprite Animations: Piskel

Backgrounds and Fonts: Photoshop

I came up with 4 ideas and chose a space theme this was the storyboard/game loop I created to explain my microgame.

I went through a few changes before the finished product like changing the title and only having the player shoot other enemy ships BUT the gameplay loop was mostly the same.

Here is the prototype I made for my microgame it's far from perfect but still a nice foundation.

This is my finished my version below where I talk about the game design.

Key Features:

  • 2D Space shooter game play that will remind you of space invaders

  • Each time you replay the timer will randomly reset between 10 and 19 seconds

  • Each time you destroy an enemy ship it will increase in speed keeping you on your toes

  • Can easily be picked up and played

From a game design point of view I needed to make the game easy to play yet not overstay it's welcome that's what a microgame is all about quick, simple and fun to play despite it only lasting a few seconds.
